Monday was textures, shapes and creativity and boy did they deliver.
Tuesday was blind tasting of pasta sauces. 5 red sauces and 1 white sauce were labeled and kept a secret while the group tasted and guessed what key ingredient was in each. "This was the best activity because we got to try sauces we normal wouldn't" said Andrea (5th gr), " It was a great guessing game" said Grace (5th gr). After the kids were done tasting and guessing we revealed the sauces and their key ingredient! The fun did not stop there it was now time to make our own sauces and add the flavors we like from the store bought sauces; basil, garlic, Parmesan cheese ect.
On Wednesday we made our own pasta from scratch. The group did a great job wanting to learn why some was not as dry as the others or why some were easier to knead. This was science at its BEST! All in all the kids FINALLY got to taste their full creation of noodles with the sauces they made from the day before. "Simone (3rd gr) said "this is the best pasta ever", "I better stop eating this but I cant its soo good" said Hannah B (5th gr).
Thursday we wrapped up our exploring pasta through structures in engineering.
I look forward to doing more life lesson activities with the kids in the near future. Please do me a favor and ask your child if they participated this week in our exploring pasta then ask them if they can make the family dinner tonight!
Congratulations to our Winner of the Blind Sauce Tasting goes to..
