You've probably all seen it before. Put some mentos in soda and it makes an incredible soda fountain! This week at Coyote Club, we took this classic science activity and turned it into a true experiment. First kids brainstormed the science behind it. What's going on? Kids figured out that mentos are covered in tiny holes. The Carbon Dioxide bubbles in the soda fill those tiny holes. What do you get when you add a million tiny bubbles together? ONE GIANT BUBBLE. Since the Mentos sink to the bottom, that giant bubble rises to the surface and pushes all the soda out above it. Then kids got to take it further. They decided they wanted to change what type of soda they used to see which one shoots the highest. After doing four rounds of experiments, they determined that it is DIET COKE!! What a beautiful sunny day to get outside and get messy!
