This week at Coyote Club, we learned about some famous artists and about some of their most popular artwork. With our K, 1st and 2nd graders, we learned about Vincent Van Gogh and his incredible Starry Night Painting. With our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, we learned about Georgia O'Keeffe and her beautiful and HUGE flower paintings. We created some flowers of our own using oil pastels. First we drew out all of the rows of petals using a variety of colors going from light to dark. We each decided which shape of petal we wanted. We then colored in the petals and used our fingers to smudge and smear the pastels so that it created a soft shade that blended with the shade next to it! Our gigantic flowers turned out beautifully. Afterwards, we each made our own cup of a flowery drink. The recipe is 1 cup of hibiscus tea, 1/2 cup of guava nectar, and 1/2 cup of Sprite. It was like a flower explosion!
